The real roots of Jamaican popular music. For years collectors and aficionados of Jamaican music have accepted the All Star Top Hits LP as the first album of Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd productions. But in 2009 a record entitled Jamaican All Stars sold on ebay that appeared to trump All Star Top Hits as Coxsone's earliest LP. The story goes that it was initially pressed in mid to late 1960, a year before All Star Top Hits on the orange and yellow Coxsone label, without a sleeve and in limited numbers of less than 2,000 copies, most of which appear to have disappeared from the face of the Earth. Interesting stuff. Musically, all tracks are in the early R&B / shuffle style that preceded ska's emergence. So now Rocka Shacka have created this particular collection, originally compiled by Mr Dodd, so that we can all savour the flavour of original.
