One of the Holy Grails of reggae collectors. The torturous story goes that this album, produced by Glen Brown and featuring the legendary Tommy McCook blowing sax across a great selection of Brown's early rhythms and beautifully mixed with that full fat reverberated sound by King Tubby, first crept out in Jamaica as early as 1974 on a Micron white label in minute quantity apparently entitled The Sannic Sounds and credited to Tommy McCook and The Pantomine All Stars. Hard to say how many still exist, a copy turned up for sale about a year ago when a collector found it hiding inside a Burt Bacharach sleeve!!!. Two years later it emerged briefly, again as a white label and in tiny quantity in the UK via the Grounation label and known as Horny Dub; there is a copy currently available on ebay for an eye-watering £1620.06, for those who may be interested. Many of the tracks were eventually included on Blood & Fire's Tommy McCook CD collection Tenor On The Call. This pressing, issued by Japan's esteemed Dub Store, appears to be based on the Jamaican Micron white label and features a slightly different track listing to the Grounation pressing. There are eleven tracks as opposed to ten; the dub known to Mr Ball Head Aitken has been dropped and one called Flute Instrumental, a cut to Brown's version of You Really Got A Hold On Me, replaces it. Also a dub to Brand New Me appears complete with Brown's "Gable Up!" interjections. Oddly, the cover is the same as the Jimmy Radway Dub I album that Pressure Sounds issued a while back, but printed upside down! Essentially, this is authentic early seventies "rebel rock" produced by one of reggae music's most inventive and eccentric independent producers, mixed at King Tubby's with superb instrumentation strongly evoking the halcyon period when reggae music arguably entered its most sublime phase.
