Third and final volume of Noel Hawks and Jah Floyd's Jamaican Recordings: A History of the Jamaican Recording Industry detailing the history and development of Jamaican popular music written by Noel Hawks - formerly of this parish - and the mysterious Jah Floyd of Jamaican Recordings under whose banner these books have emerged. This volume picks up where the last one - Rock Steady To Rockers - left off, moving on into the 70's and focussing on the stories of Lee Perry's legendary Black Ark and continuing through Herman Chin-Loy's Aquarius, Bob Marley and Tuff Gong and on into the 80's through Under Mi Sleng Teng and King Jammy, Tempo and King Tubby in the Digital Age and finishing with a Brief History Of Dub co-written with Chris Lane. Told through the author's own deep knowledge of the Jamaican music industry embellished liberally with quotes from the many interviews Hawks undertook with the artists, musicians and producers he encountered through his years in the business. This triptych is a much needed history lesson that cuts through the mythology and inaccuracies redolent in many previous histories of reggae and tells it like it was mainly from the mouths of those who created that history.
