Thirteen years after DKR first excavated this colossal tune, the mystery of its artist credit has now been solved. Its legend as a dubplate amongst long time Shaka-ites preceded DKR's release. The identity of the vocalists was usually credited to the Mighty Travellers, but it has now been confirmed to be the Majesterians, an obscure group remembered it at all for a handful of releases in the early eighties including So Many Times for Lee Perry, If I Didn't Want Your Loving for Linval Thompson, Don't You Gamble With My Love and the rootsy Youthman for Sly & Robbie. You can hear the vocal similarities to Rocks & Mountains on Youthman particularly. But Rocks & Mountains is of a different order to all these, it's ethereal vocals and Ethiopia lyrics combined with a meandering but brutal bassline the very epitome of deep and dark roots. It turns out that one of the members of the Majesterians was Everton Dacres, known for his 70's roots classic Jah Jah A Come. Dacres is still extant and he confirmed that the Majesterians are the group responsible for this amazing recording. DKR have now reissued it with an improved sound quality on the drum & bass mix. They have also included a vocal and dub of the second version of the tune, recorded around the same time but with added instrumentation and a different vocal. They've also now issued it on Taxi rather than Channel One Lost & Found. Amazing stuff.
Taken from dubplate and does feature a very minor skip to the first track on the B-side, please be aware of this if you think this will spoil your enjoyment.
