Track Listing / Description Not only one of Leroy Smart's finest records but one of the greatest reggae records of its day. From 1972, this tune probably first came to most people's attention via Big Youth's brilliant version Pride & Joy Rock, included on his classic Screaming Target LP issued by Trojan in the UK in 1973. But Leroy's vocal, released in Jamaica as a 45 on Tuff Gong, was never issued here until 1979 when Dub Vendor released it on a 12". The twist in the tail is that DKR have somehow unearthed from producer Gussie Clarke's archives the full previously unreleased alternative vocal take, snatches of which may be heard on the version side of the rare Tuff Gong pressing, which offers a fascinating insight into the creative process, one can imagine Leroy changing the line "And then you say, you looking a better man" to the less charitable "And then you say, you looking another man" as befits The Don's none-better opinion of himself! A stunning record.
