Gregory Isaacs - Mr Isaacs (17 North Parade / VP) LP

Track Listing / Description Classic album from the late, great Gregory Isaacs.  Originally released in 1977 / 78 on DEB in the UK and producer Ossie Hibbert's Earthquake label in Jamaica.  Featuring the Revolutionaries on the excellent backing tracks, Gregory covers Billy Vera & Judy Clay's Storybook Children, previously covered by Ernest Wilson at Studio One, the Silvertones' Studio One gem Smile and The Temptations' Get Ready, but the originals here are just as strong, especially Storm, Slave Master and Set The Captive Free, the last two also released as singles back in the day.  Gregory, at the very top of his game, sings like a bird, and there is an argument that this is his best album.  This release features a variation on the cover used for some of the pre-release issues.  The back cover features Dave Hendley's classic shot of the singer, while the inner sleeve, replete with contextual sleeve-notes from Harry Hawke, presents an alternative shot from the same session but sans sunglasses.  Essential, needless to say.
