Inarguably one of the best reggae albums ever, Winston 'Dr Alimantado' Thompson's Best Dressed Chicken In Town collects ten of his best tracks, originally issued on 7" 45's on his Ital Sounds and Vital Food labels in Jamaica between the years 1973 to 1976. The selection of rhythms he rides is impeccable; Ain't No Sunshine, Gregory's Thief A Man and My Religion, and the sheer invention of his lyrics and delivery expanded on styles originated by earlier deejays such as Big Youth. The title track alone makes this album an essential addition to any record collection, recorded at Lee Perry's Black Ark studio in 1974 and using the killer rhythm to Horace Andy's cover fo Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine, its a tour de force of eccentric music making as it was in Jamaica at the time, utilising the studio and its possibilities in a way that blew the minds of anyone who heard it when this album was first released on Greensleeves Records in 1978. This release appears on Alimantado's own Keyman label, the CD contains four tracks not on the vinyl.
