Culture - Natty Dread Taking Over: Reggae Anthology (VP / 17 North Parade) CD

Format
Track Listing / Description Near definitive collection of tracks recorded by the legendary Jamaican vocal group Culture for producers Joe Gibbs and Sonia Pottinger.  Centred around the talents of Joseph Hill who had been on the fringes of the Jamaican music scene for most of the seventies, recording unsuccessfully for Studio One, but it wasn't until he formed the group Culture and began recording for Joe Gibbs in the mid seventies that he acheived success with the popularity of the prophetic Two Sevens Clash in 1977.  Gibbs issued the album of the same name which became a must have reggae artefact for the UK's burgeoning Punk movement and Hill seized his opportunity recording a series of albums for Gibbs and Pottinger into the early eighties.  Culture's best records; Two Sevens Clash, This Time, I'm Not Ashamed, Natty Dread Taking Over, See Them A Come, Work On Natty, Stop The Fussing & Fighting, Natty Never Get Weary, all issued as singles in Jamaica, represent some of the most evocative records of their era and stand as an enduring testament to Hill, who sadly passed away in 2006.
