Added 12/10/09: The latest set of dubs from Jamaican Recordings issued as Niney The Observer productions using the Soul Syndicate for the rhythms. A number of the rhythms here are identical mixes to the old Virgin album Vital Dub, where the musicians were credited as The Revolutionaries; Sly, Ranchie and them… Part of the problem for many of us with Jamaican Recordings and its sister label Kingston Sounds is the contadictory and often odd information they supply with each release. The provenance of information on Jamaican music, especially the seventies period, is always hard to maintain, but JR’s notes often muddy the waters rather than shed light on the music contained on their releases. However, those who like their classic seventies dub should investigate, as there are some very tasty dubs here, especially White Man Dub, Dub Between Us, Dub Easy and Dub Over Dub – a cut to Michael Rose’s awesome Freedom. The mixing sounds authentic as well, rather than the contemporarily mixed stuff JR often put out. JRLP034
