Incredible collection of previously unreleased and dubplate Pablo material from Onlyroots and Deep Roots, Includes the legendary "Holy Grail” dub plate mixes of the awesome Jah Shaka power play Jah No Parshall, here entitled Gates Of Zion and its accompanying dub mix, completely different to the mix on the Chanting Dub LP. The vocal, by Prince Mohammed aka George Nooks in his youthful deejay guise, was only ever released on an ultra rare Hungry Town LP, only a few copies are extant, there is currently one for sale in ‘Very Good’ condition on a well known online retail platform for over a grand!
There is also a next vocal on the rhythm also used for Jacob Miller’s Who Say Jah No Dead by an unidentified singer who may or may not be Paul Whiteman / Blackman, plus a fantastic melodica / dub version. Another unidentified vocal on Pablo’s cut to Swing Easy and a killer dubwise mix to the track from which the album takes its name; Lightning & Thunder, another famous Shaka favourite, this mix is entitled Sons Of Negus. The rest of the tracks are all of a high quality and will delight those like this writer who have a particular interest in Pablo’s music. The only false note is struck by the track entitled Stay Strong a version of Ain’t No Sunshine which appears to be another unidentified vocal on the rhythm which originally appeared on Don Mais’ Roots Tradition label sung by Phillip Fraser, with an uncredited melodica piece on the B side.

Essential listening
Been waiting for a re-release of "Chanting Dub" for years, and yes, there it is. Only question: who does the mastering and pressing? Nowhere to be found... Nevertheless, Lightning and Thunder is truly essential, an even more enjoyable listen than "King Tubbys meets...", deep'n'heavy stuff and a more than pleasant experience despite the cover warnings of lack in audio quality due to poor sources. Sounds great, one truly essential,, grab one If you can!!
