About The Recordings
Recorded by Alpha School of Music students at the legendary Tuff Gong Studio with support from Bob Marley Foundation, The Single Sessions V1 is a limited edition release and a collaboration with USA-based Supernova International Ska Festival, Jump Up Records and March for Music Education Jamaica.
"Eastern Standard Time” is a 1964 Studio One ska anthem by the Skatalites, Jamaica’s first pop group featuring Alpha past students Don Drummond, Johnny Dizzy Moore, Lester Sterling and Tommy McCook.
For those familiar with 1960s Jamaican mento, this “Rukumbine” arrangement by Alpha School of Music band director Peter Ashbourne will bring back memories of recordings by Baba Brooks and Carlos Malcolm.
