The irrepressible Louise Bennett, poet, playwrite, folklorist, performer, songwriter and broadcaster.  Louise Bennett made us laugh and through her sharp edged insights helped us to take a new look at ourselves.  It all began at number forty North Street on the 7th of September when the Honourable Miss Lou 'Ring Ding' was born.  She grew up mainly in Kingston and partly in Spanish Town. Miss Lou was instrumental in changing the way the Jamaican school system, government and upper class were to forever view the patwa speaking inhabitants of the island.  She recalls such songs as Chi Chi Bud and Woman Ah Heavy Load and wondered why the native grass roots songs were never allowed to be sung in Jamaican schools, something her tireless campaigning helped to eradicate forever and put the pride of Jamaican dialect back into the hearts of the Jamaican people.
