Unity Sounds From The London Dancehall 1986-1989
Added 11/03/10: Honest Jon’s have re-issued their definitive collection of productions from the legendary London sound system Unity Sound operated by ex-Fatman selector Ribs, Ruddy Ranks and Red Eye. Unity were one of the great dancehall sounds of the eighties alongside Saxon, Jah Tubby’s, Java and Coxsone, with a special link with King Jammy’s in Jamaica for the freshest dubs, including the revolutionary digital anthem Under Mi Sleng Teng. Inspired by Sleng Teng, Unity also created their own tunes, killer Casio variations on Sleng Teng’s theme, like Jah Tubby’s from the same period. The directness and sheer panache with which these tunes were built lends them a freshness that still comes through loud and clear today. Essential stuff.
