Fresh collection of Studio One titles from Soul Jazz compiled by the great Oxman, of this parish. Oxie knows his stuff alright, but he’s also a populist, mixing the lighter rocksteady moods of Rita Marley’s Call To Me or The Martinis’ cover of Smokey’s I Second That Emotion with collector’s headaches such as Ras Michael’s Good People and Prince Lincoln’s Live Up To Your Name. He also finds room for Anthony Ellis’ roots favourite Double Minded Man, Irvin Brown’s Run Come, its rhythm track the vehicle for Johnny Osbourne’s gorgeous Truth & Rights track Eternal Peace, and Freddie McGregor’s blissful Homeward Bound.
