Lifted from Pressure Sounds’ Sound System Scratch compilation, this is the original piece to Shinehead’s dancehall classic Billie Jean riddim. Originally based on the obscure Studio One A Get A Lick by Bumps Oakley circa 1968, this cut was reportedly built by Family Man for a Bob Marley composition, but was never used. Somehow a cut got into the hands of sound men who popularised it as a vehicle for their deejays and numerous different versions have emerged over the years. Equally revered amongst dancehall fans and roots fans, the flip features a specially commissioned “version” only available on this 7” constructed from the original by the Dub Organiser aka Chris ‘The Mule’ Lane of the A Class Studio and Fashion Records.
