Both Max and Perry were known for their humour and quirk and its not missing here either, but the humour is bitter sweet to the reality and struggle of life endured in third world Jamaica, still appropriate today! The Black Ark sound can be stark and dense at the same time, evoking the smokiness and sweatiness of a country hot under the sun and imbibed with herbs, but cooled by the sweet breeze of melody and song.
