Added 18/06/10: King Shango’s first official album since 2004’s Reign Of Fire, I-Ternal Fire finds Capleton in a very different world in terms of how the reggae business runs than that of his heyday back in the late nineties and early noughties. In those days, he and his fellow Bobo firebrand Sizzla flooded the market with countless 45’s on countless labels. Tune after tune called on the wicked to purge in the fire polarising opinion amongst reggae fans and inspiring a deluge of similarly inclined though lesser talented singers and chanters in their wake. Nowadays, 45’s out of Jamaica have faded to a trickle as downloads, both legal and otherwise, have all but destroyed the traditional ways in which the musical message was disseminated amongst the people. But for those who still partake of their music via finished product this album is sure to find favour amongst stalwart fans even if it fails to breaks new ground. Still a gifted lyricist Capleton’s delivery remains committed, his oftneglected melodic sense still very much intact.
