Bunny Rugs & Upsetters - To Love Somebody (Tabou 1) CD
Before Bunny Ruggs became the lead vocalist for Third World, he cut an albums worth of material fro Lee Perry. Issued in 1974 in minute quantities under the name Bunny Scott, French label Tabou 1 oversaw this excellent reissue a few years ago. The CD includes his 1969 hit version of Neal Diamond’s Sweet Caroline as well as covers of Diamond’s I Am I Said, Bobby Womack’s Harry Hippy – as Hip Harry – and William Devaughan’s Be Thankful (For What You Got) here in extended discomix style, as well as Big May; Ruggs’ vocal piece to The Upsetter’s classic skinhead reggae Return Of Django. Scott / Ruggs is a superb vocalist, he still makes regular appearances on 45 up to now.
