Added 17/04/09: The long awaited new Bitty McLean with Sly & Robbie album is here at last. Bitty’s fans have been tantalised for months by tracks, including Plead I Cause on the Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner riddim, played extensively by David Rodigan, and of course we had The Real Thing, Lately and Let Them Talk already on 45. All these bode well for the eventual album, and now its here. But Bitty will always be measured by the perfection achieved with the classic Peckings produced On Bond Street, that’s just the way it is. Opener Games sets up a romantic mood maintained throughout by covers of Bobby Womack’s You’re Welcome Stop On By, Leroy Hutson’s So In Love, Otis Redding’s Try A Little Tenderness and Come To Me and Stevie Wonder’s Lately, but Bitty doesn’t forget his roots, as a storming cut of Johnny Osbourne’s Prince Jammy epic Jahovia on the riddim originally used for Ini Kamoze’s Trouble You A Trouble Me, featuring a powerful cameo from Johnny O himself, attests.
